What is the most exciting part of DevOps?

To me, it’s the variety of technologies you interact with: containerization, orchestration, monitoring, observability, continuous integration, continuous deployment. All of these are important practices and principles of DevOps, and each of them has at least 2 different stacks that can be used. As a DevOps engineer, you would really like to know what the advantages and disadvantages of each of the different stacks are, so you have to do research in order to be able to make informed decisions. This is really exciting, in my opinion, since it’s a great challenge and motivation for professional growth.

What are the DevOps trends to watch in 2022?

One of the biggest trends is the increase in DevSecOps adoption. Security is an ever-growing concern among the DevOps community, and this approach combines the now-classic DevOps with extra care for security.

Also, I think GitOps is gaining more and more traction – the need of automation to achieve continuous delivery is growing and GitOps seems the way to go. It assures seamless development of cloud-native applications while allowing for one-stop deployment, monitoring and management.

The last point I want to touch upon is serverless computing – this model encouraged by cloud environments has been around for quite a few years, and even though companies were sceptical about it at first, it seems like its advantages can no longer be ignored. It allows for running tasks without having to worry about infrastructure, while eliminating the danger of potential maintenance concerns.

As you can see, DevOps is an ever-growing area and I’m looking forward to all these challenges and more!

What are the benefits of working for a global company?

The main benefit, of course, is the opportunity to work with people from all over the world. This kind of interaction inspires our personal growth, provides insight into different cultures, and enhances our understanding of our fellow human beings, in the most universal sense. This way, you become more empathic and a better team member.

Another benefit is having access to the most innovative technologies out there. We’re working with the latest technology stacks and are continuously evolving. On top of all this, we also have great learning opportunities, as we are encouraged to expand our knowledge through trainings, courses and certifications.

What is your New Year's resolution?

New Year, new me! Jokes aside, I have quite a few resolutions for this year. Some are related to my professional interests: I would really like to achieve certain Cloud certifications (actually, I managed to get an AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification last week, so we’re halfway there) and also do a little bit of research into the blockchain technology (this is more of a personal pet project). Now, as for other things I would like to improve about myself, not related directly to my career, the most important issue is my health: I will be taking up a sport (I think swimming will be the choice), so wish me luck with this one!

Marvel or DC? Which comic book superhero are you?

Ha-ha, this is a hard one! Honestly, I’m a huge Marvel fan. Didn’t really read the comic books, but I’ve always been a fan of the cartoons (Ironman, Spiderman, etc), and especially the movies. Of course, I really enjoyed the Avengers series, but I have to say, my favourite character is by far Doctor Strange. This might have to do with the fact that he is played by Benedict Cumberbatch (huge fan here), but the story of Doctor Strange is truly inspiring – he never gave up and found a way to recover his strength. Also, he’s quite brilliant. Therefore, he’s my choice.
