Which advanced concepts in PHP recently gain more importance and why?
Definitely multithreading. This has always been a kind of tabu in PHP world, with solutions like ReactPHP or Swoole living on the sidelines. With the introduction of Fibers in PHP 8.1, I think we may soon see those solutions becoming mainstream, which is a big thing! I’m also curious to see how we, the PHP community, can avoid running into the blue & red functions problem.
What should we expect in web development in 2022?
I think 2022 will be mostly determined by two events that happened at the end of 2021: disclosure of Log4Shell vulnerability and withdrawal of Nikita Popov from PHP development. We realized that too much depends on the dedication of a few undervalued open-source maintainers, same as in 2014, with the outbreak of the Heartbleed Bug. In the light of recent events, we can clearly see it was not just an incident and we can no longer afford to have a library used by thousands of enterprise applications, being maintained just by two developers as a hobby. It’s about time to finally face and solve that problem.
How does company culture help you grow professionally?
Belief in people is one of intive’s key attitudes which I appreciate most. It helps build a safe working environment and lets me feel confident with what I do. It helps to leave the comfort zone when needed and encourages discovery. Our culture is what makes me proud of being an intiver.
What’s your favorite comfort food?
Hunter's stew. Or anything cooked on a campfire.
How do you celebrate New Year’s Eve?
I’ll travel back to my home city and spend some time with friends. And, like every year, I’ll take a long night walk to the forest.
