CuidAR App: Argentinian developers join forces in the fight against COVID-19

Munich, Germany – May 26, 2020 – intive has teamed up with 7 Argentinian tech companies to develop the CuidAR app, helping combat the coronavirus and save lives. The app is being used by the Argentine Ministry of Health as an official number one tool for a quick self-assessment of COVID-related medical symptoms.

The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted organizations all over the world to work on digital solutions to monitor the spread of the virus and other related information. In Argentina, the government and health authorities united with innovative tech companies to develop an app that would help the country get out of quarantine as soon as possible.

Following the requirements and needs of the Ministry of Health, the app was developed jointly by the Ministry of Public Innovation, the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Nation, the Sadosky Foundation, the National Council for Scientific Research and Techniques (Conicet) and the Chamber of the Software Industry (Cessi), which brought together the software engineering companies C&S, intive, Faraday, Finnegans, Globant, Hexacta, G&L Group, Gestión IT, and QServices.

The main idea of the CuidAR app is to allow self-diagnosis as well as geolocate patients who are COVID-19 positive to prevent the spread of the virus. Additionally, the app provides users with emergency numbers for medical or psychological assistance as well as gives access to circulation permits for those citizens, who do not have symptoms of Covid-19 detected.

Given the urgent need, the development process was extremely fast and effective. 7 engineers from intive, alongside over 100 professionals from other companies, worked on the iOS and Android versions of the app and the back-office platform. Even though it took more than 20 thousand hours of programming, the app was implemented in just 3 weeks.

“Engineers weren’t able to get together in real life, but it didn't stop them from working round-the-clock from their homes on the CuidAR app development. I’m proud of all those people, who voluntarily contributed to this project and worked on their free time, including Easter and weekends. They showed really strong, unwavering commitment to tackle the pandemic.” – says Andrés Vior, VP, Country Manager Argentina at intive.

Currently, more than 1,5 million people have downloaded the app and are using it regularly to report on their health. The CuidAR app is a great achievement for the whole Argentinian software sector and an example of how close collaboration of tech companies can help to solve the world’s most pressing problems.
