intive Wins the Red Dot Design Award for adidas GMR Mobile App

Munich, Germany – August 3, 2020 – intive designers have been recognized with a Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design 2020 for their work on adidas GMR, a mobile app that connects the world of football with its digital gaming equivalent – EA SPORTS FIFA Mobile. This year’s recognition for intive is the second Red Dot Design Award in a row for the company’s UX designers.

The cutting-edge intercompany and interdisciplinary project for adidas has been realized with a team of developers behind Jacquard™ by Google, a smart tag that is capable of detecting football-specific movement, developers of EA SPORTS FIFA Mobile, and intive’s designers and engineers responsible for the GMR app. It is an excellent example of ambient technology and an endeavor which combines the physical experience of sports with the excitement of online gaming. The concept of gamifying sports performance data is a promising step towards expanding the wearable tech space and intelligence running in the background of our daily experiences.

The mobile application, co-created by adidas and intive, enables a smooth setup and management of the Jacquard tag, inserted by the user into GMR insoles. It also syncs all the data from the tag to the popular mobile game andincludes a real-time support chat. Millions of users of EA SPORTS FIFA Mobile can now slip the tag into any boot andtrack their performance on the field, challenge themselves to better results and gain access to exclusive content withinthe game.

With projects like adidas GMR we are writing history,- says Stefan Reisinger, VP Sales, Head of Digital Products at intive.Collecting data on real playfields and syncing it to the virtual stadiums of EA SPORTS FIFA Mobile means empowering users with new, fascinating tools that blur the lines between online and offline experiences. We all love football and now we can embrace it in new, unexpected ways. I’m happy our team delivered an application that is easy to use and designed in a way that triggered the attention of The Red Dot Awards jury.”

The Red Dot Awards are one of the most important international competitions celebrating outstanding design for almost 65 years. This prestigious industry recognition pays tribute to the carefully thought-out design of the best product, communication, and brand concepts in different market sectors. The Red Dot Design Award is divided into three categories, and intive has been recognized in the field of Brands & Communication Design, in the Apps subcategory.

I’m proud of the team that worked in this project and created a compelling user journey and a consistent brand experience, – says Johannes Dornisch, Director Design at intive. We’re honored to be recognized with the Red Dot Design Award and thrilled to be revolutionizing the sports and gaming landscape with world-famous brands.”
