User Base Expansion Through Cross-Platform Sports Streaming
The Challenge
To achieve this, they partnered with intive to design and develop a multi-platform OTT solution, providing users with flexible access to their favorite games while seamlessly managing geo-restricted rights. A key objective was to retain existing users while attracting new viewers and cord-cutters – a growing demographic of consumers canceling cable TV subscriptions.
The application's goal was to enable users to watch live streams of their favorite teams, catch up on sports highlights and VOD content, and access additional material such as news and player interviews. The solution also needed to offer flexible subscription options, seamless login across different devices, and access using cable TV subscription credentials.
The intive team utilized its expertise in OTT media and user and market research to deliver a comprehensive product roadmap for the multi-platform application, making it available on mobile and tablet (iOS and Android), web, and major streaming devices including Roku, AppleTV, FireTV, Android TV, and Samsung Tizen. Through qualitative and quantitative research, we gained a deep understanding of how sports fans interact with content related to their favorite teams and players, including accessing games on-demand and breaking news.
We designed and developed an engaging, user-centric solution with flexible viewing options, including pay-per-view access and an accessible electronic programming guide (EPG). The app featured dynamic advertising, rights management, and monthly and yearly subscription plans.
Users could seamlessly browse sports programs and channels, receive personalized alerts and information on game scheduling, and access real-time statistics and odds.
A straightforward login process allowed users to log in through their smartphone, tablet, or smart TV using either their cable (TVE) subscription credentials or their email and password for direct-to-consumer (DTC) subscribers.
The solution provided native payment support for several popular platforms, including Apple, Google, Roku, and Samsung, as well as VIP accounts.
We implemented a system enabling users to access content even outside their place of residence. Additionally, deep links were integrated, allowing users to send links to games to their friends, who could open them on the web or through the iOS and Android apps.
On the backend, we incorporated a configuration management service to control frontend features, allowing them to be toggled on or off without requiring new version releases. This approach reduced the team's workload and streamlined app updates.
