As the academic year approached and commitments to universities were already in place, the company needed to act quickly to ensure the product’s timely launch. Moreover, the platform was required to comply with all WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards.

To address these pressing requirements, EdTech Client partnered with intive, leveraging their years of expertise in crafting digital experiences across various industries. The project was meticulously structured into several key phases, each designed to meet specific needs and ensure both immediate functionality and long-term scalability. intive developers seamlessly integrated into the client’s lean team, collaborating closely with their employees and reporting directly to the CTO.

Initial Development and Customization

The project began with the development of the platform’s first version, utilizing the Moodle API combined with a custom UI. The first version of the product was delivered on time to faculty at over a dozen pilot universities in April 2019. intive developers supported the design of a user-friendly front-end using React and making sure it integrates with various third-party APIs.

The successful deployment of this version allowed the team to gather valuable feedback from pilot users across several universities. This feedback was instrumental in guiding the subsequent development phase, highlighting areas for improvement and paving the way for more advanced features and enhancements.

Scalability and Mobile Optimization

Building on the insights gained from the pilot phase, the project advanced to the development of the platform’s second version. This phase involved a major transition from the Moodle API to a completely custom solution. This upgrade was crucial for enhancing scalability and performance, allowing the platform to accommodate increased user activity and evolving educational needs. The custom solution provided greater flexibility and optimization, supporting the integration of more sophisticated features and functionalities. A key focus during this phase was the implementation of a continuous delivery model. This approach facilitated ongoing updates and feature enhancements, enabling the platform to evolve in response to user feedback and emerging requirements.

In addition to scalability improvements, significant emphasis was placed on mobile optimization. Recognizing the importance of mobile access, the team ensured that the platform was fully responsive and designed with a mobile-first approach. This focus on providing a seamless user experience across various devices set the platform apart from competitors and met modern user expectations.

By leveraging a combination of React, Moodle, Node.js, MySQL, Sequelize, and a custom solution, the client’s and intive developers created a robust, user-centric platform that significantly enhances the educational experience.

The new seamless platform, specifically designed for STEM education, now provides a centralized course management system with content, including videos, dynamic formula writing, assignments, assessments, and grading, all in one place. This comprehensive system adheres to WCAG 2.0 standards, ensuring usability for all users, including those with disabilities.

The core product helps instructors save time by streamlining their workflow and simplifying lab course management. It is mobile-first and provides deep insights into educator and student engagement with the learning process. Additionally, it offers powerful customization to meet the unique nature of each STEM department's lab courses, as well as learning analytics to gauge the performance of both students and educators.
