The bridge between Poland and the UK

There are a meaningful business partnership and some great teamwork, lying behind this story. It all started in 2015, when the London-based Tandem Bank teamed up with intive to develop innovative financial products for Tandem’s customers. From the very beginning, the cooperation was based on integration and strengthening the relationships between Poland and England-based developers. The mixed English-Polish teams as well as regular meetings, created an opportunity for extra insights into the project goals and possibilities, resulting in a smooth and efficient development process.
Tailored finance for everyone

Being a digital bank, Tandem focuses on creating banking services that can improve people’s finances in the long-term perspective. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to delivering on customers’ needs nowadays – people, especially millennials, expect fully personalized solutions. The goal is to develop exceptional digital products, which reflect customers’ lifestyles and add real value by solving their problems, whilst ensuring that sustainability goals are not compromised.

Rethinking the banking together

For over 7 years now, Tandem and intive have been working closely on creating frictionless banking services that would appeal to today’s consumers. Cross-functional dev teams are actively involved in backend and frontend works, data analysis, regular testing and other tasks to guarantee the most effective development of the bank’s flagship products – with the Tandem app in the center of it. This user-friendly and very intuitive app creates a captivating mobile experience and has the potential to change the way people think about spending their money. Accelerating the trend of so-called “lifestyle banking”, Tandem concentrates on the constant improvement of the app’s customized financial management features as well as creating the most secure payment processes for its clients.

2020 - a pivotal year

When the turbulence of 2020 put the spotlight on the need for flexibility and scalability for all financial sector, Tandem and intive had already initiated a plan for overhauling the entire Tandem’s banking platform. The goal was simple: to have an utmost secure and resilient banking platform, which would aggregate numerous Tandem’s services and simplify the optimization of bank’s products. Moreover, the development of its own customized platform and resignation from a third-party provider were an important step for Tandem on its way to improve the bank’s cost-efficiency and shorten the path to profit.

A future-ready banking platform

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, it took just 12 months of Tandem and intive’s close cooperation to develop the new platform, onboard more than 1,500 Beta customers and execute a smooth migration of the entire customer base, deposits and mortgages books. To put focus on the ability to further scale existing digital products and deploy new ones, Tandem and intive built a modern event-driven architecture on AWS - a top cloud platform, which has the great depth of services dedicated for banking and delivers the most stringent security requirements at the same time. By leveraging AWS cloud environment to get more value from data and make informed decision-making, Tandem bank can now bring new ideas to market at lightning speed and create more elegant customer experiences – all while meeting compliance and regulatory requirements.

Better insights – better decisions

One of the parts of Tandem’s offering is its budgeting feature. Thanks to the integration of world-class AI to the banking platform, Tandem and intive’s specialists want to leverage hundreds of different algorithms to analyze the clients’ accounts history, detect regular transactions and extract valuable insights from this huge amount of data. All the data is stored and processed in AWS in order to maintain sufficient functionalities and capacities.

Thanks to AI-driven analytics, Tandem bank intends to match user needs on a very deep level, providing them with information about their spending habits and giving helpful tips on saving money. For example, the app alerts the clients when their bills increase, informs about upcoming payments or suggests better financial deals – letting people have more control over their budget.

Targeting the major growth

Focused on customer benefits, Tandem and intive continue to work on innovating the bank’s portfolio of digital-first financial products, including “fixed savers”, “green loans”, and “instant access savers”. The close collaboration has already brought satisfactory results: so far, the bank has notched up more than 700,000 customers. With new enhancements on the way, these numbers are expected to swell, cementing the Tandem’s position on the market.
